Greetings all:
My question concerns a Netware 4.11 server (64mb RAM) w/ an external tape
backup running off an Adaptec 2940 scsi card. The card also supports two
internal, 8gb, mirrored drives. All devices are numbered as follows: HD
boot = 0 HD mirror = 1 CD = 2 Scorpion Ext. tape = 3 Scsi card = 7
We get server abends about every 2 or 3 weeks at the end of the midnight
backup. Didn't used to be an issue until about a month after installing the
backup. Documentation that came with the external drive cautioned that
server abends could occur if "Parity Disabled" were not selected on the SCSI
card.
Here's one problem: I go to the SCSI's bios setup and select "Disabled" in
the field where parity checking is....reboot... go immediately back to the
SCSI bios to check...ENABLED!!!
It doesn't want to accept the change. Anybody have any tips? We're using
Veritas latest version (8.5) and I have a plain and simple -- back it all
up, boot everyone off, no grooming, no rotation...plain and simple setup for
the sake of the owners of this small operation.
The server's error log reports:
Volume mount had the following errors that were fixed:
Problem with file Q_0109.SRV, (TTS file...was not changed)
length kept = 0, had allocated = 65536
Problem with file QTC_TEMP.002, length exteded.
Problem with file QTC_TEMP.002, old length = 0, new length = 65536
.... more qtc_temp files w/ new lengths
Problem with file FD046272.FDD, length extended.
Problem with file FD046272.FDD, old length = 0, new length = 1966080
Problem with file Q_0123.SRV, (TTS file...was not changed
length kept = 0, had allocated = 65536
... two more Q_.SRV files of similar description were reported...
