I think an even better approach is CD-R or CD-RW. Perhaps even DVD-RAM. Not only
is the media more robust than tape or another hard disk, but it is pretty cheap.
Tape is pretty outmoded these days for the average consumer. It is slow, media
can be expensive, and is not reliable if proper handling and storage procedures
are not followed.
