It's been a while but VLB motherboard is a motherboard with "Vesa Local
Bus".  It competed with the new "PCI" boards of the time.  As you can see,
the PCI won.  The slots, if I remembered, were very long compared to the
short PCI bus.  The slots were the size of ISA bus with an extension.

I don't know the technical aspects of it but when I was putting boxes
together, the VLB's were quite a pain in the a** to install.  I believe
the VLB was also 32 bit bus and the PCI is also a 32 bit bus but someone
else on this list will know the precise speed.
