You could plug your printer into one of those "power strips"
made for multiple connections. It will have an on-off switch
which will cut off power to the plugs.  You can even plug
your computer and monitor in it also, if it has a high
enough rating.  Lots of the new-style monitors do not turn
completely off, either. You'll probably be able to find a
power strip with surge protection, which would do
double-duty.

Just a suggestion.  I have my system plugged into one and it
works fine, when I want to turn it off (such as in the
middle of one of the Tampa Bay area's famous thunderstorms.
We're the lightning capitol of the world).  Of course, since
I'm running SETI@Home, it stays on most of the time.  But I
do shut it down if I'm at home during a storm, just to be
sure.
