I recently read a sidebar to a magazine article on
this very subject. The US standards for organic vs.
"non-organic" are sketchy at best - useless at worst.
Apparently, something can be labeled "free range" and
NOT be organic because of pesticides and/or injected
medicines/hormones. Or, something can be labeled
organic, even though caged and/or penned, but fed a
diet of "organic" grains. The gist of the article was
that you could have a regular supermarket egg sitting
in front of you that could be healthier than an egg
labeled either free range OR orgainic. How much of
that is true vs. propaganda I don't know.

I guess the best advice would be to buy free range,
organic meat from someone you know and trust.
