Well Yus, this is again a situation that the super powers have a big interest
in, i.e, the support of Israel, even as they flagrantly continue their
attempt to murder, displace the Palestinians, and lay claim to their land.
However, this is not at all surprising since these powers that have their
weight and influence behind Israel came about their own lands by similar
acts. It is not a pretty history.
It is also another example to show that some people's plight are seen as more
important than other's where the U.N is concerned, and as someone mentioned
earlier, perhaps there is no mistake that the position of Secretary General
goes to people who can be answerable to these powers and their agenda.
Consider if you will, that the United States, a so called bastion of
democracy can throw their unwavering support behind Israel in their sinister
attempt to eliminate the Palestinians and take their land, and you can see
that logic and truth and justice is not what the motivating factor is in this
situation. These people know they are not suporting truth here, and even as
they run around pretending to play peacemaker with one hand, they are fanning
the fires of injustice with the other, but the charade plays on perhaps in
the hope that if they do it long enough, they can manage to fool themselves
as well as the rest of the World that their intention here is well meaning.
Meanwhile, Yassir Arafat continues to be their tossing ball, but perhaps when
the Israelis manage to blow him right out of his palace as they tried t odo
the other day, and if he lives to tell it, he will finally wake up and
realize that one cannot sit down to bargain with people whose main intention
is to render you obsolete, unless and until they abandon that position.
The undying truth that will not be swept under the rug is that one cannot
hope to displace an entire people and at the same time convince the World
that you are the good guy who wants only peace. This problem between Israel
and the Palestinians will never go away if Isreal and her partners in crime
do not face the truth and give these people their land back.

<< A while ago we had a discussion Kofi Annan's lack of participation in
African
affairs. His tireless efforts spent mediating the dispute between the
Palestinians and the Jordanians proves my point that the man has some
leverage. Leverage which he could definitely use better to influence African
crises.
In my piece, I described the UN Secretary General as part negotiator and part
provocateur, roles which he is fulfilling in the present Mideast crisis.
However, based on his lack of participation in present and past African
crises, I believe his tenure as Secretary General will be marred by his
unwillingness to help his own continent in times of extreme need.
JERUSALEM (Oct. 14) - U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan worked into the early
hours of Saturday trying to arrange a summit to halt the explosion of
Israeli-Palestinian violence.
