Have you tried a net install? If you have dual boot, try loading the
install files to HD and point to it on the install.
I use mostly RH these days. RPM's are much easier. Trying getting the
rc.firewall script from www.freshmeat.net. Required reading for firewalls
are:

NAT howto
firewall howto
firewall+masquerading howto.
