Mark covered it well. Talkworks Pro requires a voice capable modem if you
want it to be an answering machine- it just cannot be done any other way.
You can install it to a machine that has only a data/fax modem and use it
to receive faxes by specifying a "fax only" profile in the answering
machine setup. At the time I supported the product, it wasn't possible to
install just Winfax if you had the Talkworks disk- you had to install the
whole nine yards. Then you could specify message manager (Winfax) as the
default interface and select the fax only profile. Doing that, the software
would, for all practical purposes, look and run like Winfax.
