There are several 'rules of thumb' regarding this, and much has been
written on the subject.  One thing that seems constant, and that is to
always use the fastest hard drive on the least used partition for the
swap file.  This can be set in control panel.

[I used boot magic to create a 400mb partition on the tail end of my
fastest hard drive,  used for the swap file ONLY.  Nothing else.]
