Fellow lister,
I would only add a couple ideas. If the two PC's are close together, then by
all means use a crossover cable. But if there is some distance involved, a
crossover cable may not work. I would prefer, if your NIC's are RJ45's, to
use a straight CAT5 to a hub because it allows more flexibility and you can
add PC's or laptops to your network. Just my 2cents.
