Thanks for the reply, Bill.
I looked in "Upgrading and Repairing PCs" also, and I think you're looking
at the Phoenix Bios codes, rather than AMI.
I did listen again, and the beep pattern I got was 2-8-2, which didn't match
any of the listed AMI codes. I decided to try ignoring the initial 2 short
beeps,
and see what error was describe for 8 beeps in the AMI list. They indicated
a problem in the video card. I checked, and sure enough, the video card
wasn't properly seated.
So, I still don't know the meaning of the initial and final 2 short beeps,
but the
problem is solved.
