Install the new drive.
Fdisk the new drive and create a primary partition on it.
format the new drive.

Open a dos box in win98 or win95,
type
c:
cd \
xcopy c: d: /r /i /c /h /k /e /y
to copy from c: to d:

if you plan to boot from d: it should have been
formatted with the /s switch. If you remove
c: drive you will need to use fdisk to set the
new disk's primary partition as the active partition,
so have a boot diskette with fdisk.exe on it handy for this.

Xcopy will not work if you boot to dos, the switches
will not be recognized. Win9x loads a 32bit version in a
dos window, but not when the pc is booted to dos.
All the switches are not required,
but the acronym 'richkey' is so convenient to remember,
I always include them all in the instructions.

Walter R Worth and Herbert Graf wrote of using XCOPY to copy from one
hard drive to another. It would help if they could give their procedures.
I have used XCOPY a number of times, but not for copying a hard drive.
