Just for the record on this specific problem, the original poster mentioned
using a Banshee video card. With Red Hat 5.2, the included X server had
major problems with the Banshee (and the entire 3Dfx family) video
cards. Configuring the X server until the cows come home won't solve the
problem with these cards. The only way is to upgrade the X server to a
more current version than that which shipped with RH 5.2. I spent weeks on
that specific problem myself until I finally figured it out.

My suggestion is to upgrade to Red Hat 6.0 or 6.1 (the most current). The
X server in those versions was corrected. An alternative is to go to
http://www.linux-HOWTO.com and read about the Banshee video cards. They
provide a link to a web site that has the X server package for Red Hat 5.2
with a modified X server and installation instructions. They even provide
OpenGL drivers and setup instructions for any version of Linux.

If you check the Red Hat web site http://www.redhat.com and proceed to the
"Errata" page for RH 5.2, this problem is listed as well as links to files
that will help fix the problem also.
