$6,000.00 for a walker. Is this American dollars?

We've just come back from getting our 6 year old a Hart Walker and it was $8,632.00 New Zealand dollars. Our dollar is only worth about about 40 cents against the American dollar so would have thought about $3,500 US dollars was a standard price.
Where do they get their prices from I wonder?
