Hi Everyone,
I notice in reading the posts that a lot of people are having "other"
autoimmune problems in addition to celiac. I have been on the gluten free
diet for 6 years and now experiencing polymyositis. A rare (autoimmune)
muscle disease. 5% of my celiac researcher's patients are having
neuromuscular problems. I also have graves disease.
I would suggest to read www.nutramed.com/digestion/celiac.htm or
www.nutramed.com to get to this site. This is a website from Canada and
explains all the other diseases that are associated with cd. This
website is very informative and dedicates a good portion of information
to cd. Also I would suggest everyone reading the www.aarda.org website.
(American Autoimmune Related Diseases Assoc.). I think we should all
join force s and get under one umbrella through this Association. They
have an e-mail and I suggest anyone with a multiple autoimmune disorder
write to them and tell them of the problems we are having and that we
need representation. They have a real voice. We have no representation
for the NIH. There are too many celiac organizataions. I would be
interested in knowing how many celiacs have other autoimmune disorders.
I bet this number would be very very high. If you don't have another
autoimmune problem now and are not 100% gluten-free my opinion is you
will get another.
Celiac disease is a chronic illness and not a just stay on the diet and
everything will be fine. If you are experiencing autoimmune problems
please e-mail them. Maybe they will see our situation and try to help us.
