I recently obtained a Gateway computer running Windows XP Home Edition. The
computer came with a floppy drive that was not installed. I had a sighted
friend install the hardware, and I went into the BIOS and enabled it for 1.4
mb diskettes.
I now find that the drive reads info from floppy disks. However, when I try
to write to a floppy, I receive a message that the disk is write-protected.
This message appears no matter the position of the write-protect switch.
I am wondering if there is something I can do to correct this problem, or if
this means that the drive is likely defective. Thanks for your thoughts and
suggestions.
