Okay, after making sure that all was uninstalled according to the add remove dealy in windows, and after running a program which was supposed to clean up any stuff the install wizard did not clean up, I went through and deleeted anything having to do with norton and symantic from the registry.
I still got the message about a device file missing when I started up. But, to make sure, I checked regedit.
After which, I installed Norton completely, using the Norton System works 2003 disk. I did a complete install, with everything supposedly doing an intire install on my hard disk. However, Now I don't see icons for Norton Ghost, or Norton Antivirus in either the system tray or the programs menue under norton System works.
Those seem to be the ones I had the most trouble with as far as uninstalling so I could do a fresh install.
Furthermore, when I tried clickon on programs like windoctor and system doctor, so far, I hear the window open sound, but the window does not open. I get sent back to the desktop. I had this problem once before, actually.
But, why would Norton System works claim to be successfully installed, when it isn't?
