The Blind citizens of Australia has a demonstration of a talking atm on
its weekly radio program, Horizons. The demonstration differs from the
talking atm's here in America. the blind end user operates the function
keys on either side of the screen in the demonstration while the function
keys are mapped to the keyboard with the Wells Fargo and Bank of America
ATM's. You can listen to the demonstration at http://www.bca.org.au and
go to the link labeled "listen to Horizons." It is the january 1, 2001
program. While you are there, the December 25, 2000 program is worth a
listen as well. That program explores the visually impaired computer user
group in victoria, Australia. This is an excellent example of how
community organizing, mutual aid, cooperative efforts, and self-supporting
organizations can meet community needs.
