Thanks so much to everyone for the help and information so far. My friend did
remove the 3com NIC from the system. However, we've now run into another wrinkle.
I had him go into Device Manager to see what is there, and to remove any
references to the 3com NIC or dial up adapter. Well, there seem to be HUNDREDS,
yes literally HUNDREDS of Dial Up Adapters under his "Network Adapters" section,
as well as quite a few more under "Other Devices". Any way to get rid of these
other than to choose each one individually and "remove"??? That will take
forever to do! Is there a registry edit that will remove them from Device Manger
in one fell swoop?? :> If not, and he indeed has to remove them one by one from
inside Device Manager, will he also have to go and delete any reference to them
in the registry??
Again, thanks for everyone's help!
