I have tried a bunch of steps since I last posted, but none were sucessful.
Last, I removed all startup aplications from the System Configuration, and then
reloaded them one at a time, rebooting between each reload. I found that
unhelpful either. I am, though, able to print a test page for the printer by
pressing a button on the printer and by commanding it through the printer
properties of the printer. I am only unable to print through Word (Microsoft)97
and Notepad. I hoped that this mean I needed to reinstall those programs, which
I did immediately before the last procedure (involving startup files) and that
was unsucesful as well. It seems to be that the problem lays in the Windows 98
configuration, but can not be solved by reinstalling Win98 (I have already
done so three times). The technicians at Canon remain firm that the printer is
working properly, and "there seems to be a problem in the Windows configuration
or a problem wiht your computer". I also note, again that the printer worked
fine, then when I booted it one time, it stopped working! Strange...? Please
let me know if you can help.
