I recently swapped out an Abit BH6 motherboard from my computer and replaced it with a BE6r2 by the same manufacturer. I have had no success in getting the new board to run properly. As it attempts to boot up it goes through the POST and suddenly freezes to a black screen with the error message "While initialising device vcomm, windows protection error. you need to restart your computer."
No matter how many timesI attempt to restart I still get the same message.

In desperation I tried to reinstall Windows 98SE but as I get to the point where hardware is being set up it initialises the driver database but as it attempts to set up hardware and any PnP devices I have I get the dreaded blue scree telling me that "a fatal exception 0e occurred at 0028:c143f9e8 and that the application will be terminated" No matter what I do I can get no further than this point.

Can anyone point me in the right direction and give me some clue as to the next step?

System: Abit BE6r2 board, 128Mb sdram, Maxtor hd(1) @ 8Gb, Maxtor hd(2) @ 10Gb,Matrox G220 Pci video card, Adaptec AVA 1505 scsi card, UDMA66 ide controller disabled in bios, SB Audio PC164V sound card and external USB Robotics modem.
