What can you do to help the people of Sierra Leone?

There are many ways, but one thing you can do right now is to help with a
shipment of humanitarian and relief supplies.

Friends of Sierra Leone needs your help!

Please volunteer; send supplies or a contribution to help with the shipment
of a container.

If you can volunteer to help pack boxes or can drop off supplies, come to
the Sierra Leone Embassy at 1701 19th Street, NW Washington, D.C. 20009 on
April 29 and April 30, 2000, 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM.

If you live outside the area and would like to assist with the shipment you
can send a check to
Friends of Sierra Leone
P.O. Box 15875
Washington, D.C. 20003-0875
Or
Send supplies directly to the shipping company:
Friends of Sierra Leone
C/O Chesapeake Bay Shipping and Warehousing
3431 Benson Avenue, Suite E
Baltimore, Maryland, 21227

We cannot accept items for delivery to specified individuals or groups. All
container supplies must be received by May 25, 2000.

These women are living in an internally displaced camp in Kenema, in
Southern Province. Unlike other uprooted families, they have not yet built
their own shelters and are living in overcrowded tents made of plastic
sheeting. They sleep on straw in an area no larger than 4x4. Overcrowding in
camps has led to poor water and sanitation conditions. In this camp, NGOs
estimated there were as many as 150 people per latrine. The accepted
standard is usually no more than 20 people per latrine.
