  It's just a guess, but in addition to re-installing Windows, you
probably have to re-install any drivers specific to this machine.  It
may be that the install is not correctly identifying some component,
and so is selecting a driver that is not actually correct -- going
even further out on a limb, I'll guess that video might be a likely
culprit.
