Open the network properties in "Control Panel". Check the list of installed
protocols. I bet there is one for TCP/IP bound to the linksys card. If you are
using simple peer to peer file and printer sharing over NETBEUI, then you don't
need this protocol, delete it. If you want to use ICS (internet connection
sharing, either the one built into W98SE, or another proxy package), then you
need to setup the package according to the instructions for it. What is
happening is that by default, the properties are set to "server assigned
address", meaning it will wait for about 60 seconds for a DHCP server to give it
its address. Since none are defined, it just sits there during that time.
You can also pre-define the IP addresses (make sure each computer is unique. The
ICS server in W2000 has a simple DHCP server built in so the other clients can
be set to server assigned.)
