Dorland's Medical Dictionary describes Whipple Disease as " a malabsorption
syndrome characterized by diarrhea, steatorrhea, skin pigmentation,
arthralgia, and arthritis, lympadenopathy, and central nervous system
lesions. The intestinal mucosa is infiltrated with macrophages containing
PAS-positive material (the remnants of bacillary microorganisms which invade
the lamina propria). " Arthralgia is joint pain and lympadenopathy is
disease of the lymph nodes.
