Subject: all: Internet Availability of Digit-Eyes Tapes

> Some have asked if tapes of seminars organized by Digit-Eyes: The Chicago
> blind computer User Network will be available on the World Wide Web in
> Real Audio or through the Windows Media Player. On march 4, the general
> membership decided this question. Members chose not to upload the tapes
> to the Internet. Members believed that doing so would discourage
> participation in the seminars and the group as a whole. The consensus of
> members was that the seminars and all digit-Eyes functions are interactive
> forums where members learn from each other, share skills, form factions,
> ask questions, and dialogue about recent news and innovations. This is
> not possible with today's audio technology described above.
>
> we understand the interest nationally for the tapes and from local
> vicug's. However, members affirmed our mission as a community based
> organization working to strengthen blind computer users in the Chicago
> area. We realize that many of our efforts have benefited blind computer
> users outside Chicago and believe that this speaks clearly to the success
> of our approach and vision on computer access. At the same time, members
> remain concerned that distribution nationally through the Internet will
> limit and reduce participation locally.
