   Thanks to all who replied.  After reading the replies and
looking at the web site http://www.oddparts.com/ink/hp-5L.htm,
it appears that refilling a toner cartridge has an very high
messiness potential.  And it's not worth the effort involved.
So it's time to search the web for new ones.

One further question:

As Joseph Walc <[log in to unmask]> points out:

How can a person be sure that they're getting a new cartridge
and not a recycled one?

And have other people had problems with recycled cartridges?
