Mr. Paulsen-- I have read your postings to the ADA Law listserv, and
thought you
might have some ideas about this project: I am working with the
Presidential Task Force on Employment of Adults with Disabilities, which
has made the following recommendation to the President:

"12. The President direct the Department of Transportation to work with
the Departments of Labor, Education, and Health and Human Services, the
Social Security Administration, and other relevant Task Force members to
develop a comprehensive plan of action to address the lack of
transportation services and systems for persons with disabilities.

The lack of available public transportation is a major employment barrier
for persons with disabilities. This factor is cited by many individuals
with disabilities, at recent Town Hall meetings held by the Task Force and
at other events, as being the major impediment to finding and keeping jobs.
The Department of Transportation has been vigorous in addressing public and
private accessibility issues for people with disabilities. This directive
would be to concentrate Federal efforts on developing an interagency action
plan that addresses the lack of available transportation."

I and wonder if you or your staff might have some ideas on the subject of the
recommendation, especially in terms of what such a comprehensive plan
should consist of, priorities for people with disabilities in the area of
transportation, and who else I should speak with, including contacts in
other organizations with whom you interact. Thank you very much for your
help.

Office of the Secretary - U.S. Dept. of Transportation
