Nice article--it does seem obvious that fat storage is essential to
survival.
Perhaps the storage of fat is great in the short term but has its ill
effects
once one goes beyond practical procreation age. Most moderately obese
men can
survive into their 40s without too much difficulty, and that coincides
with
when women lose their ability to reproduce. If pair-bonding occurred
regularly,
the males would also cease reproducing and really have no reason left
to live,
so no reason for their bodies to develop an energy storage system
conducive to
longevity.
Just a couple of thoughts.
