Well folks thanks SO much for the helpful responses, but I must say I am more
overwhelmed than before. It seems most peoples responses were based on the
first-hand experience of either themselves or a family member. The responses
on how long to try GF if medical tests rule out Celiac range from one week to
3 years! THREE years!? All on a total whim, a guess that *maybe* a
gluten-free diet might make one feel better even though biopsies were
negative! Wow! That sounds almost ridiculously long.

But I guess with health nothing is clear-cut, so I guess I (and my friend)
will give GF (and DairyFree) a go for about a month just to see. After a
month, if GF isn't helping me, I'm not sure what I will do.

I may be moving from California to New York in a few months. A major change
and huge upheaval - quitting job and finding apartment and all that. I'm not
sure how well trying to manage a gluten-free diet will fit into that
experience. Actually I *do* know - it would be quit awful, judging from the
past "special diets" I have tried. I think the timing would be awful. So
maybe I'll do GF here for a month or so, then - if it ISN'T helping - I'll
return to an easier, more normal diet during my move, and once I'm settled in
my new location, then I'll consider doing GF for longer, maybe a few months.
Does THAT sound reasonable? What would YOU do?

I don't think 3 years on a gluten-free diet with NO IMPROVEMENT IN HEALTH is
really ever in the cards for me.

Patrick
