This post may only be of interest to dog owners who are interested in a more
natural way of feeding their canine companions. Please delete if this does
not apply to you.

Charles, I pity Cain if he is getting kibble when you eat REAL food!!!

He can tell the difference just by smell, and you can't blame him for
wanting good food too. There is a diet for dogs that is becoming popular
(because it saves its users a lot on vet bills), like the Paleo diet for
humans, in that it is based on the principles of feeding what is healthy for
the ancestor of the modern dog (the wolf). For me it is more work but less
money than "premium" kibble. Which is certainly an acceptable tradeoff.

The best books on the subject are by Ian Billinghurst and Kymythy Schultze,
and the diet is Bones And Raw Foods. or more accurately, Biologically
Appropriate Raw foods. I have fed my dogs this diet for a couple of years,
and have saved a fortune on vet bills. Most skin problems in dogs are
evidence of food sensitivities, and what are allergic dogs almost always
sensitive to? GRAINS!!!!! Some also have a visible difference in health
depending whether their meat sources are organic or regular human-grade....

Email me offline if you are interested in more info... I don't get a penny
for the books and don't sell food, but I have seen a remarkable difference
in my dogs since I changed them over 100%.

Of course, raw-feeding five mastiffs mean they own more major appliances
than I do, two upright freezers, a refrigerator, and a VERY nice heavy-duty
juicer. (But they let me use them too!) I buy raw meaty bones in 200-400 lb
orders and package it myself, I therefore pay 35 cents/lb instead of over
twice as much. Makes a difference when I am feeding this much!
