you know you hear about souther hospitality, but, you also find suspicion of
strangers tends to be more  ingrained in the south. i think this is a result
of carpetbaggers and scalawags during reconstruction.

Just about everybody was poor in the south after the carpetbaggers and
scalawags were through.  Bled the people dry.  Most folks didn't own slaves
anyway, but it didn't matter to the vengeful northerners.  But, I'm not
bitter...  ;>)
