Amen.  Ever notice that nobody gets upset about things they are sure
about?
No one mounts a soapbox, or starts a war, over "The Sun is going to
rise
tomorrow."  But if you start talking about whether "the Son did rise,"
then
watch out.  Seems to me the violent reaction most people have to ideas
contrary to their most cherish beliefs reveals a deep-seated
insecurity
about those beliefs.

This is akin to the idea that an insult doesn't hurt unless it is at
least
partially true.  If I find myself become angry or offended by
something
someone said -- by words! -- I try to remember to analyze the source
of my
anger.  I don't always remember, but, when I do, I usually learn
something
about myself.
