We had a similar experience at a very reputable children's hospital, when my
son was in for observation after having a severe anaphylactic reaction to
cheese (this was the reaction that earned him the allergic-to-milk diagnosis).
His meal sheets were marked clearly "no milk or dairy products", but every meal
had something....pudding, pumpkin pie, pats of butter, you name it. I don't
know who runs the kitchens in hospitals, but you'd think they'd have more of a
clue. I guess it's just another example of how we can't always sit back and
just assume people are going to get it right.
