Karin from Oregon, checking in. Age - 39 for another month...
Dairy allergic, most likely to casein. As far as I've been able to determine,
this has been a life-long problem, but went undiagnosed until about 2 years
ago. After 20+ years of irritable bowel and other problems, including
eczema and asthma, when I was fed up with medications that had so many side
effects the IBS was easier to live with, the doctor suggested stopping
dairy for 6 weeks "just to see what happens."
Shortly after I started reading this list (about the time we figured out
what was going on), someone posted a list of symptoms of dairy allergy.
It read like my life story.
Since stopping dairy, my IBS is much-improved, my eczema is much-improved,
my asthma comes and goes, but overall, I FEEL so much better!
About a year ago we figured out that my son (14) is LI. He tolerates
some dairy, but can tell as soon as he's overshot.
Oh, and as far as cravings go, I miss cheese (and occasionally crave it).
I broke down and had a couple of slices of pizza early in 1999. It was
wonderful and I loved it and I hurt for DAYS.
