Jamaat al-Muslimeen Press Release
Our Sister-in-Islam, surrounded by Enemies
Calls out for Help to the Ummah
Sis. Khalidah can take a lot of pressure because her faith in
Allah
is strong. Abondoned by her family, ignored by her community, she is in a
detention center in Atlanta, awaiting a court date. She has no attorney and
her rights as a Muslim and a human being are being violated.
She was arrested on a frivolous charge of "cruelty to children." Her
son, who was diagnosed for Attention Deficiency Disorder and related
problems, singed his arms on the kitchen stove when she momentarily took her
eyes off him.
There was no serious injury but the authorities claim that she did
it!
Her Christian mother has been trying for a long time to bring the children
out of Islam. This was her opportunity. The children are now in the
Christian family's control.
HER BOND AMOUNT WAS SET AT $55,000 which is more than that for
hardened criminals. Her mother quietly removed the bond she had posted,
claiming that Khalidah might run away to her "Muslim friends overseas."
(Bigotry in the Bible belt runs deep.)
Earlier Sis. Khalidah tried to formulate her future as a Muslim,
married a Muslim man. The marriage did not work out after 4 children and our
reports indicate that he mistreated her and then divorced her.
So, she was up against: her family and then her no-good husband.
Finally we come to the treatment in prison. Here are quotes from her
letter. Notice that she writes well. She is a clear-thinking person who used
her skills in creating web sites to make a living. Her life-style is clean.
Her daily life is Islamic and she was bringing up her children as Muslims:
"When I initially was brought to the jail, I was harrased and
physically threatened because I did not want to remove my khimar. As several
male and female guards started closing in around me, I asked them the
purpose
of my having to remove my headcovering. I stated to them several times the
purpose of the covering, and that it was mandatory that I wear it. I was
told
it was (to be removed) because I could have a weapon hid under it. I told
them another female guard could search me (which she did in front of two
men)."
"I then asked if I could just remove it for the necessary picture
taking and then have it back. I was told 'NO! and told to 'TAKE THE DAMN RAG
OFF YOUR HEAD!!'"
"When I began to cry, the male guards laughed and said some words to
the female guards who began to laugh as well. When I told them that 'Allah
hears all the evil and sees all the evil that is being done here,' the
guards
all looked at each other and laughed even harder. Then they said if I
believed that, then I wouldn't have burned my son. I then told them that I
didn't burn him and if they would stop laughing and check, they would see
their mistake. They said I was full of sh-t."
"Afterwards I was put in an observation cell for an an hour. When I
still hadn't removed it, a Black female guard was sent in who PULLED MY
SCARVES OFF ME and told me if I 'started anymore trouble' I was going to be
pe
pper sprayed and put in a restraining chair."
Sister Khalidah has twice offered to take a polygraph test and has
been refused. When she asked one of the guards if they believed in God, he
said "there is no God in jail."
Our African-American sister is being tormented by people who are
Black. As Imam Musa pointed out in the Jamaat's International Symposium, the
system has successfully coopted many Black people to use them against their
own community.
HOW YOU CAN HELP:
1. We need a Muslim attorney to take her case pro bono.
2. We need letters of support to be sent to her.
3. We have advised her to file a complaint in writing about the
violation of her rights to her captors. Once this is done, the community
should flood the prison in Atlanta with letters of protest.
We can say with confidence that this sister stands up for Allah's
deen.
We must ask Allah's forgiveness for having neglected her. Let's show the
Atlanta bigots that they will regret having done what they did.
(REMEMBER! THESE ARE THE SAME PEOPLE WHO ARE HOLDING IMAM JAMIL AL-AMIN.)
