Ebrima,
Thank you very much for an informative piece. It has reinforced
my believe that this President and his administration represent the worst
kind of misrule. The numbers and statistics you cite would keep responsible
leaders awake late into the night as they work hard at ameliorating these
very tragic circumstances. Instead our tormented nation is continuing to
contend with a leadership that is unfazed by their plight. The government
knows fully well that the country is unraveling and that things would get
progressively worse precisely because they have neither the inclination nor
the ability to set a better course. Premature deaths and other severe
deprevations apparently are not sufficient to trigger any sense responsibilty
for this excuse of a government. Never have they ackowledged this basic
problems that are clear, present and persistent. Instead they spend all their
time regurgitating pipe dreams and foolish attempts at persuading people
that they are better off despite the misery they are sinking into. A while
back some list members expressed concern at the President's decision to
relocate his office in Kanalai. They cited several reason which ordinarily
has lot of merit but they assumed this was a hands-on President who is very
much abreast of what happens in his administration. The fact is this
government has no overall sense of direction, instead the President runs the
institutional equivalent of a session of musical chairs in which he pads his
top positions with courtiers who are constantly jousting to avoid being left
standing when the music stops. He is not running an outfit that has serious
and professional aids preparing and coming to him to work on important issues
that would for once benefit the people. So Yahya Jammeh can relocate to Rabat
Morroco and it would not make an iota of a difference in terms of how this
mess of administration works. He recently had a three hour session on a
weekday with musician Lucky Duby. The guy is a great musician but three hours
in the time of guy who has all these glaring problems says everything about
the kind of President our country is unfortunate to be stuck with. You have
to assume they had to be watching a couple of music videos and played a
little card game and might have even squeezed in a quick dip into the
Atlantic ocean. List members, this is not the President our long suffering
people deserve. He can't and would not address their problems no matter how
alarming the statistics.
