My 2¢ on the baby becoming colicky on mother's milk. It can also happen
when the mother is under excess stress. My son had that problem with my
milk. Since the cause of the stress couldn't be alleviated easily, he
was put on Enfamil. I hated doing that, but at the time it appeared to
be the best solution. This was back in '72. I also started my son on
solids the day I got him home. He was delivered by c-section so I was in
the hospital 5 1/2 days. Didn't know better, so his first solid was rice
cereal, then moved on to fruit & veggies. By the time he was 4 weeks
old, he was on meats. I processed his fruits and veggies in a blender
and relied on the commercial meats. He thrived and would be very healthy
if he would make a few life style changes. He smokes and drinks. I did
the same with my daughter. She was in great shape until she went off to
college. Maybe some day, she will go paleo.

A side note on my eating habit when I was pregnant with my son. I knew
that I needed extra nutrition and increased my protein and vegetable
intake. I made sure I ate liver every other day and took vitamin
supplements. Since I knew we would be moving & I didn't want to have to
pay two doctors, I didn't see a doctor until the beginning of my 6th
month. The doctor had a fit!! I got a lecture on the importance of
prenatal care, etc. I did have some complications during the last 2
months (toxemia), but I still believe I did the right thing at that
time.
