The first main question is: What Operating System are you planning to
install? (I'm guessing Win98SE?)

Then: what does the customer plan to use the drive for? If only data access
(like a big CD), then as far as I know it's just a big CD drive.

If, on the other hand, they want to watch movies on it, then you open a
whole kettle of fish regarding (as you mentioned) video cards, system specs,
hardware or software decoding, etc.

c|net has reviews of some leading DVD drives here:

html?tag=st.co.1091.dir.1096-402-0
(or http://www.cnet.com , Hardware, Storage, DVD Drives)

Knowing what they want it for it an important first step. <grin>

Hope this helps,
Philo
