Often this is an issue with the IRQs assigned to the sound card.  Since
the advent of plugNplay, Windows will hand sound cards on just any
available IRQ, often even IRQ9 or 10.  Games do not particularly
like such assignments, as games are rarely written with specific IRQ
assignments in mind.  Try manually assigning your sound card with
IRQ5 or 7, DMA 1&5.   Often this will solve all your problems... as
game manufacturers design games with these preset for the sound
card.
