So it's probably toast. But to be sure try another ribbon cable. They
rarely fail, but I've seen a few go bad and it's one one of the first
things I try on a suspect hard drive. Bringing another working drive to
that system is also a good way to check to see where the problem lies.
Can you still autodetect the drive in CMOS or see it while running
fdisk.exe (do the display drive info option)?
