Hi,
ECC stands for Error Checking and Correcting, it is similar to simple
parity, but better.
With parity RAM, you have 8 bits of data and a ninth parity bit, used to
check for single bit errors (via odd/even checksum total). This can detect,
but cannot correct an error.
With ECC, you combine 8 bytes to get 64 bits of data, and 8 "parity" bits.
With this many check bits (and using a special code), you can check for
single or multi-bit errors, and can correct single bit errors.
