We really won't get a full picture of the bone density question until we
do a follow up. Michael's calcium levels were low when they did the
test. Michael is growing slower than the average child but we are not
sure why yet. The follow up DEXA will show us if the improved diet with
the addition of vitamins and calcium will improve his DEXA results.
Also, if his growth remains slow they are going to do a bone/age test.
I believe this test basically indicates if a child has a growth problem
or is just a late bloomer.
Michael was on high doses of oral steriods last year. Also he is taking
inhaled steriods (Aerobid and Albuteral) to control his asthma. As you
know, these can also slow growth.
The docs say he may "catch up" but they ar not sure yet. He is still to
young to tell.
