Beth,

I agree with your assessment about falling in the dark.  I've been
assessed using a computer where you stand on the sensors and it notes
your center of gravity.  When I do the test with my eyes closed, those
few seconds feel like an eternity and I move all over the place!
Without the visual cues I have no clue where I am and have very little
sense of balance.
