MIchael-
We encountered a similar problem on the Guilin Building (1920) in Shanghai,
PRC. By the way, the Chinese call the stuff Shanghai Plaster. In that case it
was on a concrete substrate. The original applications on the building varied
slightly from location to location, with larger aggregate (slag) on the top
stories and roof structures. The stuff had been applied to mimic Japanese
granite used on the base of the building. The contractor was able to provide
field samples of his own mix, and they were right on the money. It worked
very well. Bon chance.
