Not sure if this has been tried, but you could always try reinstalling
Multimedia, which includes all the codecs and such. Go into the
Control Panel, under Add/Remove Programs, Windows Setup, uncheck
Multimedia, apply, reboot, go back in and recheck it, reapply, and
reboot. See if that helps.
