hi...jim wishner in minnesota. i'm having a problem adding RAM to my computer, wonder if anyone in the group can help.
i'm using an asus p5a motherboard with two 64-megs of sdram in two slots. i added a 128 meg stick to the third dimm socket, and it worked fine. booted up to 256M of memory. i wanted to run an experiment to see what impact doubling the RAM had. so i timed how long it took to load several programs, pulled the 128 meg out of the third socket, and re-timed with 128 megs. but when i put the 128 stick back in the computer wouldn't boot. i got an error message:
"invalid VxD dynamic link to device #3 service B win config invalid. run windows set-up program to correct."
that apparently refers to the third socket. i tried one of the 64 meg sticks in socket three, and the same thing happened. so i put the 128 meg in socket one, 64 megs in socket two, and it boots up to 196 megs.
any suggestions are greatly appreciated.
best regards, jim wishner
