Which came first, the yogurt or the acidophilus? ;-)   Lactobacillus
acidophillus produce yogurt......and vice-versa.  But it's part of normal
intestinal flora- and it's particularly good at metabolizing lactose, so it
might well decline in a dairy free diet.  It can also be killed by
antibiotics and outcompeted by other organisms so supplements of it can be
helpful-

 I suppose "normal" would be what is found in a person on a SAD. Do you have
any statistics of non-dairy groups, of what their flora is, and whether it's
even necessary or helpful, if one has no need for lactose?
