. Just interested by the
insanity of the present food distribution system that makes , for
example,
bought newzealand apples , cheaper than to pay somebody to harvest the
ones
hanging in the trees here.

The apples you get today from New Zealand are 6 months old.  The New
Zealand
summer is our winter.  They have been kept in cold storage or in wax
as a
preservative.

I have a friend that is a Trucker.  He has told me some of the things
he has
moved around the country.  He actually took California Oranges to
Florida
and on the return trip brought Florida oranges to California.  Go
figure.
