Daniel Bluestone, formerly of the Columbia Uninversity Graduate School of
Architecture, Planning and Preservation and presently Director of the
Preservation Program at the University of Virginia (last I knew anyway) once
said:

"Adaptive reuse is the functional equivalent of a sex-change operation for a
building."

I always thought this statement -- though somewhat extreme -- was right on
the money. Is this relevant in light of the recent thread on transgenderism?
